The Week That Was

"Tell me again why I'm doing this?"
"As if I've told you 300 times already, all New Scotland Yard
personnel are supposed to spend a week at training camp! Now, I only
got two hours of sleep last night, so if you ask me again, I'm gonna
knock you into last Thursday!" Lestrade snapped at Holmes.
Training camp wasn't exactly the week he was looking forward to,
so he pestered Lestrade about it. He opened his mouth to speak, but she
gave him the evil eye, and he closed it.
"All right! All bags on the bus!" Gregson yelled. Holmes dropped
his in the storage area under the hover-bus, and climbed on with Watson.
"Oh, Holmes, here." Lestrade handed him a piece of wadded-up
paper. She pointed to a very short man. "That's Inspector Bradstreet.
If he starts singing, throw that at him." He and another inspector
sat down. Holmes and Watson sat down behind them. Lestrade and two
other female inspectors sat in a set of three in the aisle next to them.
The doors to the bus shut, and it lifted off. About five minutes
into their two-hour journey, Bradstreet began to sing.
"I WANNA BE AN OSCAR MEYER WEINER, 'CUZ- HEY!" Everyone threw
their wads of paper at him, except Holmes, who hit him last, after
everyone quit. "Okay, I'm shutting up now!"
"Hey," the inspector next to Bradstreet spoke up, "You're a
rookie. Nice throw. I'm Inspector Stanley Hopkins." They shook hands.
"Call me 'Short Stack', if you want. That's my nickname."
Holmes sat back for the rest of the ride, after making
