A Bad Christmas Wish

'All right, so what if it doesn't work?' Lestrade asked on the way to
'It'll work,' Watson said confidently as he drove the
'What are you going to do when you've gone back to your own
self?' Holmes asked.
'Let's see... I am going to get a good night's sleep
on my bed; go solve cases with you two, and... I don't know, there's a
lot of things to do.'
'Like arguing with me on solving cases?' Holmes grinned.
Instead of getting angry, Lestrade just laughed.
'Here we are,' Watson said as they got off the hovercoach.
'Come on, Holmes. I think the wishing well is this way,'
Lestrade said, tugging his arm.
The three of them stood near the well.
'So anybody got a coin?' Watson asked.
Holmes looked pale. 'I forgot to bring my wallet.'
Lestrade frantically searched her own pockets. 'I think I lost my purse.'
Watson only retrieved one coin.
Lestrade took the coin. She closed her eyes as tight as she could.
I wish I were an adult again.
She let go and heard the coin hit the
surface of the water. Lestrade opened her eyes. But as soon as she did,
she wished she were dead. She was still a little girl. She began to shed a
few quiet tears.
'Come on, let's go.' Holmes said softly.
