Fates Intertwined

Part 1

I seem to recall this being discussed earlier when the subject of MSTing the Round Robin came up: write an RR using Harry, Ginny, Holmes and Lestrade from the MST. So...here's the beginning if anyone's interested.

Harry Potter yawned as he sat in a fluffy armchair in front of the Gryffindor common room fireplace. He had been trying to do his homework for the past twenty minutes, but he had been unable to concentrate. Finally, he stood and set the parchment and quill aside. He still had a week to finish that particular assignment, and he had quite a lot on his mind.

The past few days had been strange. Well, stranger than normal for a school that taught witchcraft and wizardry. Still, Harry was fairly certain that being taken from wherever he was at the moment and put in a room that was completely blue with three other people and forced to read stories that were about them was not something that happened to very many people.

For just that reason, Harry hadn't talked to anyone else about it. Not even Ginny, and she had been there. Everyone else didn't even seem to notice that either of them had left at all.

The soft, hesitant voice startled Harry, and he turned from where he had been staring into the fire to face Ginny.

"Oh, hey, Ginny."

The redhead smiled faintly, and Harry was glad to see that she wasn't blushing like she used to. In fact, ever since the first time they had been taken, she had become bolder.

"Been thinking about that place?" Ginny asked.

"Yeah," Harry nodded, "and I keep expecting to suddenly find myself there again."

"I know what you mean, it's kind of scary." Ginny smiled again. "But it was also fun...especially Mister Holmes and Lestrade."

Harry laughed, but before he could respond Neville came running in through the portrait hole.

He stopped short when he saw Harry and Ginny, and they could clearly see that he was debating with himself about something. The debate was shortlived and he walked hesitantly over to them.

"I, uh...I need your help, Harry...I-I...."

"With what?"

Neville looked between Ginny and him and shook his head. "I-I'll have to s-show you."

Harry exchanged a look with Ginny before agreeing. "Okay, let's go."

To Harry's surprise, Neville led him straight to the dungeons, into the Potions classroom.

"I overheard Hermione talking about a potion that could make someone smarter," Neville explained, "And I looked it up and found it! But...." He stopped, looking sheepish.

"But when you snuck down here to make it, you botched it?" Ginny asked gently.

Neville nodded. "And that's not all."

"Not all?" Harry asked.

"No...I had finished making it, but Snape caught me. I was so nervous that I knocked my cauldron to the floor. Instead of spilling, the potion made some kind of swirly thing and Snape got sucked inside because he was too close...Harry, what am I going to do!"

"Calm down, Neville...let's go check this out."

They all three walked over to where Neville said he had been making the potion. Sure enough, a strange black swirly thing hung in the middle of the air. Harry frowned and grabbed the book Neville had got the potion from.

On one side of the page was the potion Neville was trying to make. The potion on the other side explained what had happened. Neville had got the two mixed up. Instead of making the potion that would make him smarter, he had made the Time and Space Vortex.

"Well, I guess there's nothing for it but to go in there and find Snape. Neville, you stay here and find Hermione, she can probably find a way to get us back. Ginny, you go make sure..."

"No way...I'm coming too. I've missed out on too many adventures." She placed her hands on her hips and glared at him, looking remarkably like her mother.

"Well..all right, then."

They both took a deep breath, closed their eyes and jumped into the thing.

Okay, you guys can take over from here...tee hee.
