An Annoying Fan Writer in New London
Brittney stumbled along the hard ground of New London, keeping
mostly to the allies and shadows. So far she had seen flying cars,
people talking into something that looked like a weird watch,
skateboards that sort of hovered in the air, and who knows what else!
"Wake up, Brittney! Just wake up!" But the throbbing in her head told
her she was not dreaming.
Suddenly, Brittney felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around,
she faced a large man in some kind of uniform. New Scotland Yard?!
Finally someone to help her! "Excuse me, miss. You need to get to the
hospital. Need a ride?" He seemed friendly enough, and Brittney gladly
She hesitantly eased herself into the strange car. She had
never liked airplanes, and she wasn't sure about flying cars. The
officer gave her a funny look. "What's the matter? Never been in a
hover car before?" He laughed as he climbed in, obviously unaware that
she actually hadn't been in a 'hover car'. Finally, Brittney
mustered up the courage and got inside, with a quick inhale.
Once off-ground, the officer started asking questions. "What
happened?" was his first question, very blunt and to the point.
Brittney bit her lip. "Ummm..." What would she say? She had
come from the past into this world after falling out of a window?
Yeah, right. She decided to tell the truth as best she could, without
it sounding crazy. "Well, I'm not exactly sure."
The officer took his eyes off the road for a second to look at
her. "What is the last thing you remember?"
Brittney tried to be as honest as possible. "I fell out of a
window, and when I woke up, I was in the middle of the street." She
left out the part about switching time zones in the process of falling
out the window, but who wouldn't?
The officer looked confused. "You mean someone just grabbed you
after you fell out the window and put you in the middle of the
Brittney looked away. That was the stupidest thing she had ever
said. She should have lied and said... what would she say? Some gang
beat her up, and left her there to die? It sounded better than 'I fell
out the window and onto the street.' She sighed. "I don't know what
happened. Maybe someone dragged me out here. I really don't know."
The blood that covered her had finally dried and stained everything on
her. She was feeling a little woozy from the blood loss, and just
wanted to sleep. The rest of the drive, er, the rest of the fly was
They finally reached the hospital, where her wounds were tended
to. She didn't even need bandages, they just healed automatically.
