all right, here's where i come in. it's not the best, but
i'll get better.
Brittney sighed and leaned far back in the office chair. "It's
going to be a long day," she said as she glanced at the clock on the
wall. Brittney's dad wanted her to work as his assistant in his real
estate office, taking calls and stuff.
"I don't want to be an assistant! I have bigger dreams! Better
things to do!" Brittney tried to reason with her father. No such luck.
"Yes, but you have to start small. If you do good as an
assistant, I'll promote you. Eventually, you'll become a top-notch
real estate agent. But you have to work your way up."
Brittney scowled in frustration. "No, you don't understand!! I
don't want to be a realtor! I want to be... I want to be a
detective!" She blurted out suddenly.
Her father looked shocked, then angry. He yelled and argued,
with age on his side. Brittney tried her best to argue, too, but all
was useless. So now she had to sit in this stupid office answering
stupid phone calls, and working with stupid people. "Stupid, stupid,
stupid!" she repeated.
Suddenly, there was a loud shout outside the window. Brittney
jumped up and glanced down. She was about five stories high, and
although the people were small, she could still tell who was who.
There were policemen surrounding the building, fingering the guns
in their belts. By the front door was a dark-haired man, holding
something. "Jacob!" Brittney cried out, stunned. "I know that man!
It's Jacob from the office by me! What's he holding?" Brittney
squinted at the tiny people below her.
"The man's got a gun! Run! Run!" Shouts came from the streets
in all directions. People were running around like maniacs, fleeing
from a supposed gun.
Brittney was startled. "Peaceful Jacob with a gun? It can't
be!" Brittney leaned out the window in her attempt to see better.
Suddenly, the door banged open and in came her father. The sudden
noise startled her and for a second she lost her grip on the window.
But a second was all it took, and Brittney was tumbling down five
stories onto the pavement below. The last thing she remembered seeing
was her father's worried face appear as she fell. Her body hit the
ground with an ear-shattering thump, and all went black.
Brittney groaned as her eyesight began to clear up. "What
happened?" she wondered out loud and put her hand to her head. A sharp
pain ran through her. Her hand seemed moist and sticky. She looked at
it and almost screamed. It was stained a dark red from the blood
coming from the gash in her head.
She looked around her. Her vision was still a bit blurry, but
she could see well enough to realize that she wasn't in America. She
was in New London now.
A billboard was above her. It read 'Buy a New Hovercraft
Today!!'. Brittney stood there, puzzled. Hovercraft? Brittney gulped
and looked around. She had a feeling this wasn't your average New
London.
