Myths and Legends Filk
Updated December 29, 2003
Filk based on legends, myths, and folklore. This category includes
mythical beasts and creatures, as well as legendary heroes. I have
striven to be inclusive here, mostly because filkers traditionally draw
on any piece of fantasy music which seems congenial to their tradition,
no matter its original musical genre. I would like to include more stuff
from bluegrass and other genres less familiar to filkers than folk, Celtic,
rock, or classical; suggestions are hereby solicited.
Filks which I feel are more
religious than legendary in nature can be found over on the Religion Filk page.

Once upon a time, a hunchbacked man named Lusmore saw the Good Folk dancing and singing, "Dia Luain, Dia Mairt; Dia Luain, Dia Mairt,
", (Monday, Tuesday) over and over again. Finally, the man couldn't stand it any more and sang out, "agua Dia Céadaoin!"
(and Wednesday!). The Good Folk, very pleased, took the hump from his back and let him dance with
them for the rest of the night. When he awoke and went home, one of his
envious neighbors decided to try his luck songwriting for the Good Folk. So
the next night, he yelled out, "agus Dia Déardaoin, agus Dia hAoine!" (And Thursday, and Friday!)
But that didn't scan very well. And what did the angry Good Folk do but
flee, and leave the man with Lusmore's hump?
